We understand that sometimes there are circumstances that do not allow you to keep your pet. We are not here to judge and instead believe that our role is to facilitate the best transition for all involved, not just the animal. We believe in compassion and work with you to learn the most about your pet, their needs and what time of home they will thrive in. We often stay in touch with the owners and let them know when we’ve reached milestones such as major vet care has been completed or when their dog has found a forever loving home. Owners can also follow our social media to see photo updates. Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc. covers all costs for vetting and care for your pet until they find their adoptive home.

We will Love Your Pet and Care for Them When You No Longer Can

As a dachshund rescue in Portland, we coordinate a pickup with you when it is most convenient. When you surrender a dachshund, you will send along their bed, leash, food and medications so they will start their next chapter surrounded by familiar scents. They will be placed in a warm and caring foster home, often with other dachshunds, where they will get lots of one-on-one attention. There is a surrender fee to help defray the cost of a vet visit and fostering expenses. However, if you are faced with financial hardship, we may make an exception. The welfare of your dog is ultimately of the utmost importance to our rescue.

Our rescue network works tirelessly to find the perfect new forever family for each of our dogs. We take into consideration each dog’s personality, as well as comfort with kids, cats and other dogs. If they have separation anxiety, we place them in a home that is retired or works from home. We typically adopt to residents of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. Each adoptive home undergoes a thorough check to ensure your dog will end up in a loving forever home that is prepared to care for them for the rest of their life.
